What Is PRP?
Known as Platelet Rich Plasma, PRP treatment is based on injecting person’s own blood to problematic area by enriching this blood with thrombocyte. Although PRP application has become popular in recent years, this method is used in various medical fields for more than 30 years. This treatment is used in physical therapy, dermatology and orthopaedics and this treatment is based on self-regenerating skill of human body. Although this method is known as root cell treatment among people, it is actually rich thrombocyte treatment. Thrombocytes indirectly work as root cells but this treatment cannot be called root cell treatment.
How do thrombocytes enriched?
Our blood has three main blood cells which are white blood cells, red blood cells and thrombocytes. Red blood cells carry oxygen to our organs, white blood cells fight against infection and thrombocytes act as coagulants when there is any bleeding. Thrombocytes at the same time have growth factors that control various cell functions, stimulates cell growth, prevents cell death, heals scars and stimulates new collagen formation.
PRP can be used in medical aesthetic and cosmetic dermatology, hair loss treatments, hair transplant support, ski rejuvenation, scar and acne scar treatment and skin cracks. 8-20 cc blood drawn from the patient is transferred to a special tube with heparin and separating gel. Heparin inside this tube prevent coagulation of blood. Separating gel separates these layers and prevents mixture. This special tube is places inside centrifuge devices and subjected to separation and thrombocyte enrichment that lasts approximately 20 minutes. When the tube is removed from centrifuge device, blood of the patient is 4-7 times richer in terms of thrombocyte. Intensely separated thrombocyte are mixed with thrombocyte activators to be released in injection area. Plasma that contains thrombocyte, leucosis cells, cytokine cells and growth factor is injected to problematic area. After the treatment, repair and treatment process of damages tissues starts.
Skin regeneration with PRP treatment
Age and external factors may damage your skin. Skin will lose elasticity over time and wrinkles; sags and cracks can appear. Although thrombocytes are building blocks of blood cells, these cells cannot prevent signs of aging due to their density. Concentrated thrombocyte treatment that enriches thrombocyte helps repairing skin damage with regenerating and restructuring effect. Repaired skin will look younger, healthier and brighter. 3 or 4 session PRP treatment that is applied with 3 week intervals will help repairing and regenerating skin. Decreased wrinkles and disappearance of dry skin can clearly be seen after the first session. When PRP cure is applied each year, it is possible to experience long-lasting regenerating effect.
PRP treatment is combined with procedures like dermapen, peeling or laser skin spot treatment. These combination will help achieving results faster and ensures more permanent effect.
PRP in hair care
PRP in hair treatment is applied to reduce hair loss and strengthen hair roots. Hair root that loses strength and healthy structure can become stronger with PRP treatment. PRP treatment that is applied at least 1 a month for three months is injected to areas with weak hair root. This process is painless and causes no scars and repeating this process for once a year will provide more permanent results.
PRP treatment supported hair transplant accelerates operation related scars and crusting due to operation. This treatment will strengthen current hair and accelerate new hair growth. PRP-hair transplant combination will make hair roots stronger that lose their ability to produce quality hair.
PRP treatment in hair transplant can be used in 3 ways. First one of these methods is injection to scalp as in hair loss treatment. Second method is keeping collected hair root inside thrombocyte rich plasma. This way, roots are kept inside natural root stimulant and continue to take oxygen and nutrition. Third method is washing collected grafts with PRP solution.
Does PRP treatment have side effects?
Since PRP treatment is based on autologous system and own blood of patient is used, there are no associated allergic reactions or different side effects. Individual who are afraid of synthetic and chemical treatments can easily follow this method.
Who cannot have PRP treatment?
- People with blood diseases,
- People with thrombocyte count lower than 250,
- Pregnant and nursing mothers,
- Cancer patients.
Other than these exceptions, anyone who wants to look younger, prevent skin spots and hair loss can have PRP.
